A beloved member of the family who started the famous Gympie Muster is being remembered as a ‘community-minded’ and ‘family-oriented’ woman.
Tanda Anne Webb, a beloved and cherished member of the Gympie community, sadly died on November 29 at the Cooinda Residential Care Home.
Tanda left a rich legacy behind, touching the hearts of her family, friends, and the Gympie community through many different endeavours in her long life.
As an only child who was born and raised in Brisbane, Tanda embraced her husband’s country lifestyle and very large family of eight siblings and 27 cousins, which was a “big shift” from what she was once used to.
Her husband was Fabian Webb, the oldest brother who made up one third of the iconic Australian band ‘The Webb Brothers’. He sadly died in 2014.
“She was selfless, very community minded, and always welcoming,” Tanda’s daughter-in-law Helen Webb said.
“She was also very family orientated and a very devoted person.
“She was involved in a lot of Fabian’s engagements. Fabian was a councillor in Kilkivan for 37 years, and she was always there for functions, openings, conferences, publicity events, and handling social media.”
Besides helping her husband with his busy career, Tanda devoted much of her time to a variety of causes such as the Queensland Country Women's Association, Gympie Pony Club, Kilkivan Great Horse Ride, Widgee District Hall & Recreation Association, Widgee Craft Group, and the Red Cross.
She was also a member of the Widgee Rural Fire Brigade, where she received medals for 10, 20, and 40 years of service.
Tanda was also a part of local community groups, donated to local schools, and volunteered in canteens, bakeries, and for causes that highlighted women.
She also loved cooking, crocheting, and spending quiet time alone playing solitaire.
Other than all the causes she dedicated her time to, her family was the most important thing to her.
“She is so fond her grandchildren. She always put time aside and prioritised them over everything,” Helen said.
“She was the glue that held the family together.”
Helen said that no matter what kind of raffle she would enter, she was always guaranteed to win something – whether that be wine, chocolates, or shortbread, to name a few.
A surprising thing Helen thought people may not may know about Tanda was although she was married to a famous country musician, she actually wasn’t fond of country music.
“She would much prefer to listen to classical music, Andrea Bocelli was her favourite.”
Tanda’s legacy will be treasured by everyone's lives she touched, and will be deeply missed by all of her loved ones.
Tanda’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 12 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church at 11am.
Rest in peace, Tanda.
