Drink drivers from Gympie, Goomeri, Pialba, Kilkivan to face court

Five drivers, one of whom was more than five times the legal alcohol limit, have been charged in just days as Gympie police rebuke risk-taking on the region’s roads and reveal when and where they were caught.

Gympie police have issued a statement about drink driving in the region after five shocking incidents within 11 days.

Three men and two women, who separately caught the attention of police because of the way they were driving, all allegedly blew over the limit and will now face the Gympie court.

One woman has been charged with driving while almost five times the legal limit.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on the Wide Bay Highway, Bruce Highway, Goomeri and Gympie.

About 2.05pm on February 2, Kilkivan police allegedly clocked a 56-year-old Kilkivan motorcyclist doing 121km/h on the Wide Bay Highway east of the town.

When they stopped him, he allegedly blew .079.

He will face Gympie Magistrates Court on February 17.

Three days later, about 2.25pm on February 5, Kilkivan police stopped 34-year-old Gundiah man after they saw they saw him overtake another vehicle while there was oncoming traffic.

He blew .072 and is also alleged to be on a SPER suspended licence.

The man will face Gympie Magistrates Court on March 17.

About 12.59am on February 6, Gympie police pulled a 50-year-old Gympie woman over on the Bruce Highway after allegedly seeing her car swerve over the road.

When they tested her blood alcohol, she blew .135, the allege.

The woman will appear at the Gympie Magistrates Court on February 17.

Later that day, about 6.07pm, police pulled over a 29-year-old Pialba man in Reef Street after seeing him exit from a back carpark of a premise and almost turn the wrong way down a one-way street.

He allegedly blew a BAC of .114 per cent when tested, and will front Gympie Magistrates Court on February 17.

About 1pm on February 13, Goomeri police pulled over a 50-year-old Goomeri woman in Moore Street after she allegedly swerved from side to side in the lane, crossing the centre and fog lines.

When the woman’s blood alcohol level was subsequently tested, she allegedly blew 0.234 per cent.

The woman will appear at the Gympie Magistrates Court on March 3.
