Gympie Covid: region records 17 new cases overnight

The number of Covid infections across the Gympie region has continued to crawl higher overnight, with one Gympie suburb recording the most cases of anywhere in the region. View the interactive map.

Gympie has recorded its lowest number of new Covid infections in more than a week with 17 new infections identified across the region.

There have now been 1033 infections identified since the start of the pandemic, with the majority detected in Gympie north, which has reported 362 cases.

This area stretches from Glanmire to Tamaree on the northern side of the Mary River.

The region’s rural areas, including Curra and the Mary Valley, have reported the second highest rate of infection with 303 total cases confirmed across the townships and their surrounds.

Kilkivan has remained largely unaffected, with only 45 cases found in the regional area.

Gympie’s case numbers account for less than 5 per cent of the 22,449 recorded across the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, which Gympie is part of.

Queensland Health has refused to confirm whether any of the 10 deaths recorded in the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service happened in the Gympie region.

There have been 10 confirmed Covid-related deaths across the health district but Queensland Health has refused to reveal whether any have occurred in the Gympie region, citing privacy grounds.

Sadly, Queensland recorded 18 new deaths on Sunday as the state recorded 9974 new cases, totalling 66,068 active cases identified across the state.
