Gympie Regional Council has posted a statement about its role in the establishment of a Covid hub at the Civic Centre and the fate of the $2 million upgrade of the CBD venue.
“Council has received lots of calls recently about the Civic Centre that relate to it being used as a Covid-19 vaccination centre and the delayed upgrades to the facility.” the statement said.
“Below are answers to some of the most common questions our customer contact team have received.
“What can you tell us about the vaccination centre?
“The vaccination centre is being operated by Queensland Health without any assistance from council. If residents have any questions regarding the vaccination centre, including its operating hours, how long it will be in Gympie for and how to register for vaccination, they should contact Qld Health by visiting their website at www.qld.gov.au/health.
“Do you still have the funding you received to upgrade the Civic Centre?
“Yes, council received an extension from three funding bodies to complete the planned $2,001,893 upgrade of the facility.
“Council received funding from Works for Queensland 2019-2021, Bushfire affected Council’s Cat D and Covid Works for Qld. None of the funds allocated for this project will be spent until Qld Health is finished using the facility as a vaccination centre.
“When will the Civic Centre reopen to the public?
“At this stage, a date is yet to be confirmed. Qld Health will advise council when it plans to stop using the facility as a vaccination centre.”
