Cooran woman recounts motorbike crash that killed teenager

A woman who pulled up behind a fatal crash south of Gympie at Cooran on Saturday night has revealed the devastating details of what happened in the minutes after the impact.

A woman driving a car that pulled up behind a horrific motorbike crash at Cooran that killed a teenage boy on Saturday, has revealed what she witnessed in the minutes that followed the impact.

It was reported the 17-year-old boy tragically died after the Suzuki motorbike he was riding collided with a Subaru Forrester along Greenridge Pinbarren Rd about 9pm on June 10.

The 29-year-old man driving the the car was not injured.

When Emma Skea arrived on the scene just minutes later, she could not believe what she saw.

“The second ambulance had just arrived,” Ms Skea said.

“We stayed back, but we could see the paramedics giving (the teenager) CPR.”

Ms Skea said multiple cars had stopped to see what had happened.

“As soon as we saw the bike in the road and the front of the white car, we knew what had happened,” she said.

“It really is a terrible tragedy.”

Ms Skea said it was “really sad” to see a young person be taken in this way.

“It was a just a kid who was just starting his life,” she said.

“I can only imagine how his family feel.”

After experiencing the tragedy on Saturday night, Ms Skea said it should be a caution to other motorbike riders.

“Motorbike accidents rarely end well,” she said.

“I have siblings around the same age with an interest in motorbikes and all it does is make me nervous at the thought.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for anyone with dashcam vision or further information about the accident to contact police.
