The Little Kids Day Out event is bursting with fun and colour this year with a new theme bringing together children’s artworks from around the Gympie region to put on display.

The theme for 2022 is based on Andrew King’s picture book Young Engineers, to inspire Gympie’s young children to design and create.

The free annual event will be held on Saturday, September 3 from 9am to 2pm at the Pavilion and Gympie Showground.

Early learning centres and schools across the region are contributing artworks crafted by Gympie’s youngest to display at the event.

Free performances, information booths, art experiences, activities and a 250m decorated walking track weaving throughout the Pavilion will be set up for families to explore.

The site will be packed with more than 50 performances, activity and information stalls.

About 300 volunteers will come together to help local families connect with services, clubs and other businesses in a fun environment.

The event has a healthy food policy with the South School P & C Cafe, Traditional German Sausages, LKDO Sausage Sizzle, and coffee vans on site. Families are also welcome to pack a picnic.

There are also prizes to be won in a draw for submitting an online feedback form after the event.

“The event is to connect families with young children to schools, early learning centres, clubs and support centres in the region to help them help their children flourish,” committee member Kim Walters said.

“It’s a free community event, by the community and for the community.”

Mrs Walters and several other volunteers finished delivering 6000 flyers and 28 banners throughout the region last week to promote the event.
