Beloved Glenwood teen Cody Bergemann has been farewelled in a heartfelt funeral at his family home on Friday afternoon.

The Bergemann’s property was overrun with cars and people dressed in brightly coloured shirts, as the community gathered to farewell the cheeky former James Nash student, who died in a horror crash on June 1.

Cody’s coffin was carried in by his brothers and closest friends, all of whom were wearing matching pineapple ensembles resembling the same outfit he could be seen wearing in a favourite photograph.

This same photo lay atop his coffin, which was decorated with Super Cheap Auto stickers and messages written by friends and family.

A bottle of Bundaberg rum and a wreath of flowers also helped form the shrine.

Mum Katherine Bergemann read tributes.

She described her son as her “sidekick”.

“Cody loved everyone like a family,” she said.

“Last time I spoke to him, he was telling me how good his day at work was.

“We will miss him more than words can say. Not a day will go past where we don’t think of him.

“We love you our beautiful son.”

A piece read on behalf of Cody’s dad Paul described him as“one of his best mates”.

“A piece of me is gone forever,” the tribute read

“Be good, wherever you are.”

Mrs Bergemann said to Cody’s youngest sibling and only sister Violet, he would forever be known as “my Cody”.

Mourners wiped away at tears as a slide show to songs including The Climb by Miley Cyrus displayed photos of Cody throughout his life.

Emotions peaked when Mrs Bergemann held up a large envelope.

The family were in the process of getting a development application approved to build volleyball courts at their property for the local young people of Glenwood to use.

Two of these courts would be dedicated to Cody, as would a plaque in his name.

“We started this project as a family, and I’d like to finish this chapter one last time as a family together with Cody before he goes,” Mrs Bergemann said.

“Everything (Cody did), he’s helped us along the way.”

Inside the envelope was the answer to whether or not the volleyball courts would become a reality.

With one small sentence, a round of cheers erupted from the property.

This was shortly followed by one last toast to Cody, with cans of Bundaberg Rum and Coke handed out.

The funeral concluded with Mr and Mrs Bergemann climbing into Cody’s “pride and joy” ute with his coffin loaded up onto the tray, as they lead a steady stream of cars. revving their engines and kicking up dust out of their property and down Neerdie Rd, past the site where he died.
