Overlooking the Gympie CBD flood plain is the majestic old Queenslander that is home to Kingston House Impressions, one of the regional city’s finest dining and table-service restaurants.
Paul and Kim Jones bought the property in 1996 and turned it into a restaurant, leasing it out over the years and most recently, taking a break from it all.
In 2023, however they decided to step back in, take over the restaurant and give the gracious house a well-needed rejuvenation.
The walls are now clean white to contrast with the polished wooden floor, clean lines, high ceilings and wide open dining room.
A wall inside the front of the house been knocked down and replaced with a set of folding doors, which open up the whole dining room, but can also be used to close the area off for private functions.
The bar and kitchen are new, giving the restaurant a country fresh natural look of 2023 in a structural setting of 1900.
Entrees, mains and share platters include a selection of meat, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
The lunch special includes a main, dessert and beverage.
Caroline Henwood, Kerrie Birt and Jo-Dee Jensen had just finished their lunch together and were sitting outside on the deck on Wednesday; they said they were delighted to be able to return as regular customers.
“Amazing, always fabulous,” Ms Henwood said.
“Beautiful food, beautiful service, beautiful place,” Ms Jensen reflected.
Kingston House is currently in its soft-opening for September, and is open 11am to late Wednesday to Saturday and by bookings only as the new staff get accustomed to the renovations and opening.
An official Re-opening Party on September 30 is fully booked out.
