Industry leaders hunting for a new home in the Gympie region may soon have some new options with one of the region’s main hubs.
Bonita Holdings have sought approval from Gympie Regional Council to build a four-tenancy industrial building on vacant land near the Monkland home of Harvey Norman and Chemist Warehouse.
The 2267m sq block is at the corner of Edwin Campion Dr and Ettie Jane St, in the Bunworth Industrial Park, opposite Autobarn.
The tenancies will average 266m sq in size.
Twenty-two parking spaces will be provided for customers and staff.
It is the latest in a series of application bringing development of the Monkland hub back to life following a four year-long stall.
The land was bought by Skyblu in October 2021 for $598,000, CoreLogic’s RP data records show.
Since June 2020 there have been four applications lodged asking to build industrial showrooms inside the park at Edwin Campion Dr, ending a four-year drought which started in August 2016.
Two of these have been approved, and one was taken back off the table.
On the opposite side of the park, directly behind, Autobarn, a similar four-shop building has been approved by the council’s planning department.
The stores will range from 195m sq to 345m sq, and will be built on a vacant block.
Three of the showrooms will have the option to add a mezzanine level.
Twenty-two parking spots are included in the proposal.
Land owner David Bannister was given the go ahead in October 2020 to build a new showroom opposite Harvey Norman.
The single-storey showroom will include 11 parking spots.
It is unknown which business will make its home in the building.
An application by macadamia group CL Mac was withdrawn in August 2021, 11 months after it had bee lodged.
The company had wanted to expand their operations on land two blocks away from its existing home within the Bunworth park.
No reason was given as to why the project was pulled back off the table.
Another application has been lodged at Langton Dr, behind the park, but no details are available yet.
