Alleged abuser denied bail for choking, assault

A 23-year-old Gympie man facing horrific domestic violence charges held his head in his hands as he fronted the Gympie Magistrates Court.

A 23-year-old Monkland man was denied bail on Thursday for horrific domestic violence charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm and choking.

He entered no plea when he fronted Gympie Magistrates Court, escorted by police and wearing prison greens. He sat in the dock leaning forward and with his head in his hands.

The man faced charges of choking, assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault, breaching a domestic violence order, possessing a utensil used in connection with a drug and property suspected of being used in a drug offence.

He was remanded in custody to Gympie Magistrates Court on August 9.
