A 26-year-old concreter has been denied bail after he allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill a police officer.

Gympie man Alis Flinn did not enter a plea when he appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday, but made an application for bail.

The details regarding the alleged events were not read out in full but the court heard the series of events began at the Gympie Hospital on April 14 2022.

Despite being asked to remain quiet by his lawyer, Mr Flinn told the court he had been refused help at the hospital, which led to police being called.

The court heard it would be alleged Mr Flinn obstructed and threatened to kill a police officer.

He was then taken to the Gympie Watch house, where he is further alleged to have caused problems with police.

Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell described his alleged actions as “really serious”.

Defence lawyer Mark Oliver told the court his client denied the allegations against him, and had requested CCTV footage from the Gympie Hospital and the Gympie Watch house, as well as body-worn camera footage, for evidence.

Acting Magistrate John Millburn denied Mr Flinn bail.

Mr Flinn held his head in his hands after this was announced.

He is charged with seven offences, including contravening a direction from police, two charges of obstructing police, public nuisance, assaulting police, threatening violence and possessing a dangerous drug.

He was remanded in custody, and will reappear in Gympie Magistrates Court on May 16, 2022.
