House prices across the Gympie region continue to soar in the face of cost-of-living pressures, with more than two dozen homes cracking the $1.4 million-dollar mark.
The sales helped drive an ongoing double-digit rise in the region’s median house prices, with figures from CoreLogic RP Data showing it was the fourth time in five years the market had experienced such a surge.
The median house price for the 4570 postcode, which covers Gympie and its immediate surrounds, had risen more than $50,000 over the year.
Its figures said the median house price in January 2025 was $551,712, up 11 per cent on the February 2024 median price of $495,510.
The report said more than 290 properties were sold in the city and its immediate surrounds across the 12 months from February 2024 to February 2025, with houses staying on the market an average of three weeks (21 days).
CoreLogic’s figures were supported by popular online sales hub Realestate.com showed the median house price across Gympie was up 10 per cent on the year.
Century 21 Platinum Agents Gympie owner Billy Mitchell said the market was being driven by a simple “light bulb moment”.
“Everyone wants to live here now,” Mr Mitchell said.
There continued to be an oversupply of buyers and undersupply of homes, and transport improvements like the Gympie Bypass only made the region more attractive to house hunters.
Mr Mitchell, whose agency sold four of the top 25 highest priced homes according to CoreLogic RP Data records, said he was “still getting surprised by the sales prices on properties”.
“Once upon a time a sale over a million dollars (in Gympie) was rare,” Mr Mitchell said.
