Mount Larcom may only be a small spot in the huge electorate of Flynn, but it’s clear constituents in the small regional town don’t want to be forgotten.

The electorate of Flynn sits below the seat of Capricornia and as well as Mount Larcom, it encompasses communities including Gladstone, Biloela, Emerald and part of Rockhampton including Gracemere.

The campaign trail has been busy for local candidates and both the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader.

Mount Larcom, within Flynn, has been identified as a volatile booth heading into the Federal Election, switching from one party to another four times over the past six election periods.

Chriss Rowe works at the Mount Larcom News and General Store and says she will be swinging her vote to Colin Boyce and not his Labor opposition Matt Burnett.

Ms Rowe said she was worried nothing would be done in Mount Larcom.

“We sometimes get Glenn Butcher come in and Ken O’Dowd, they show interest in the place,” she said.

“I’m not happy with Matt Burnett...as Mayor he tried to get money into some areas and if he gets in it’ll probably be the same and nothing will get done here.”

Julie Beel runs Mount Larcom Cafe and Collectables and says while she doesn’t feel the community would be left out, she was hoping to see more help for small businesses and things to attract people to the area.

“It’s been hard the last few months,” she said.

“Some more signage would be nice, the car park up the road could be extended and it would be nice to see the potholes fixed.”
