A teenager who broke into a Central Queensland business and stole air-conditioning units was under the influence of drugs at the time, a court has heard.

Ryan James Paterson, 19, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to entering premises and committing an indictable offence by break.

The court heard that between January 23 and January 29, Paterson broke into a business in the Gladstone suburb of Telina and stole two air-conditioning units.

The prosecution said Paterson told police he subsequently sold one of the air-conditioners and restitution amounts of $924 and $286.60 were sought.

The court heard Paterson had no relevant criminal history.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said Paterson had made “a poor decision to use drugs” and while he was under the influence he committed this offence.

Ms Wieland said Paterson, a hospitality worker, was remorseful and willing to pay restitution.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan placed Paterson on a 12-month good behaviour order with a $500 recognisance.

She also ordered he pay $1210.60 restitution and no conviction was recorded.
