Truckies die horrendous death

TWO families are grieving after their loved ones were killed in a horrific truck smash south of Rockhampton yesterday. In the worst possible start to Easter, two men died when their truck crashed through the road barrier and rolled into Eight Mile Creek, near Bajool. Central Region Traffic Controller Lyle Mitchell said it was believed the two men were travelling north on the Bruce Highway from Apple Tree Creek, near Gin Gin, when the crash occurred just before 4am. He said the driver, a 27-year-old Jindalee man, was killed instantly by the impact. The man had to be identified by fingerprints because of the extent of his injuries. Police are still trying to identify the male passenger, but believe he is a 31-year-old from Buderim on the Sunshine Coast. Inspector Mitchell said the crash happened as the truck wandered onto the right-hand side of the road as it tried to negotiate a sweeping right-hand-bend. He said the truck flipped onto its side, ploughed through the bridge railing, then flipped onto its roof, landing in the creek bed. "It was crushed then, absolutely destroyed," he said
