Truck, car crash between Benaraby and Calliope: Bruce Highway blocked

Police have confirmed the death of a Gladstone man following a head-on crash which closed the Bruce Highway for many hours on Sunday. Here’s what we know.

A Gladstone man has died following a head-on crash between a truck and sedan on Sunday morning.

Early investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit indicate about 7am the sedan the man was travelling in was heading northbound on the Bruce Highway between Calliope and Benaraby when it collided with a truck.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near Sawmill Rd about 7.10am.

The driver of the sedan, a 52-year-old Gladstone man, died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 51-year-old Hollywell man, sustained minor injuries.

The Bruce Highway was closed for most of the day as authorities conducted investigations, reopening about 7.30pm Sunday with reduced speeds.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing with police appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to contact them if they haven’t already spoken with officers.

HOME ERUPTS INTO FLAMES

A house fire was also reported at the Gladstone suburb in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended a home on Berrigan Court at 3.40am.

It was reported the residence was “well alight”.

Queensland Ambulance Services reported there were no patients involved.
