Family and friends are still coming to terms with the loss of Jay Stemm after he sadly passed away from injuries in a motorcycle crash on December 27.
The 52-year-old Tannum Sands man was travelling on a Triumph Speed Triple motorbike on the Dawson Highway at Clinton at 4.30pm when he entered a roundabout on Chapman Drive and crashed, police stated.
Loved ones have described Jay as a gentle giant with an even bigger loving heart; a true mate and one of the “originals of the town”.
Memories of him include fishing and playing the guitar, with people saying he was always up for a joke and a laugh.
Known as Stemmy, he was originally from Biloela then moved to Tannum Sands.
He was the son of Katrina and George, and Jim Stemm (deceased) and devoted partner to Tanya Firth.
Many loved ones have said he will be reunited with his sister Renee in Heaven.
He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, partner and a loyal friend and mate to many.
Jay loved his family, mates, good music, his bike, a chat and cold VB, especially at the Tannum Pub.
He was known to make the best chilli sauce, a secret recipe of his own.
Conversations with Jay were known to be profound and interesting.
A funeral will be held for him on January 12 at 1pm at the Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands Crematorium Chapel, Pioneer Drive, Boyne Island.
According to Transport and Main Roads data, there have been 77 motorcycle and moped rider and pillion fatalities across Queensland for 2023 until 18 December, a total of 256 fatal crashes.
