The long-awaited new development of Agnes Water Central Shopping Centre has officially opened to the public.
The project, built and designed by property and development company Stockwell, has been in planning since it was bought for $2.2 million in April 2021.
The centre consists of an Everfresh IGA supermarket, and other retail and service businesses including a new doctors facility, a pharmacy, a bank, bottle shop, nail and beauty hubs and a tobacconist.
In total, the centre will support over 100 jobs; either those retained from the ongoing operation of the centre, or those which come with the new businesses.
Stockwell Managing Director Mark Stockwell said that the construction of the centre was about creating more options for residents locally, with many Agnes Water residents needing to travel to Gladstone or Bundaberg to receive these products or services previously.
“Opening this centre is really about delivering for the community and giving residents and visitors more choice for their daily needs,” said Mr Stockwell.
Mr Stockwell officiated the opening of the event on Saturday, joined by 700 people including Everfresh IGA Supermarkets Executive Operations Manager, Brett Leishman, who has worked with Stockwell previously in other areas throughout the state.
“We created, own and have managed the Bargara Central shopping centre for the past 25 years, expanding the centre over this time in line with community’s needs and expectations,” said Mr Stockwell.
“Our aim with Agnes Water is the same and with the excitement seen at the opening, it gives us confidence to continue with our plans.”
The majority of contractors used during construction were local to the region, or from neighbouring areas like Gladstone or Bundaberg.
The new shopping centre arrived several months ahead of Stockwell’s further plans for Agnes Water and 1770, with an over 50s resort, Solana 1770, anticipating to have their first residents move in toward the end of the year.
Development approvals were granted in 2021 for a total 201 modern and contemporary two and three bedroom homes, which are currently under construction at 13 Watermark Ave.
Solana 1770 will also feature a shared facility, the Livewell Centre, which will include a cinema, a craft/ meeting room, a library, lounge, dining area, kitchen facilities and community hall.
