A 14 year dream has finally come to fruition for 18 year old Boyne Island local Brooke Sheridan, who is now an official AFL player for the Brisbane Lions.
“After going through all the setbacks and then finally getting that phone call, it was a huge relief taken off my shoulders, there was a lot of emotions involved and I just couldn’t really believe it was happening,” Miss Sheridan said.
After suffering an ACL injury in her draft year and moving to play for Queensland in the National AFLW Under-18 Championships, Miss Sheridan was officially signed to the Brisbane Lions AFLW team this month.
“I started off as a train on player and would train with the main group once a week. This in itself was a really huge opportunity for me to be able to prove myself.
“After a successful state comp and academy series, I had a couple of sessions with the group before they made their decision to add me as the final player; I was thrilled.”
Brisbane Lions AFLW head coach Craig Starcevich said they were excited to have Miss Sheridan on board for the season.
“She’ll add another string to our bow in the forward line and we are keen to see her development throughout the year as she spends more time with our AFLW group,” Mr Starcevich said.
Up next for Miss Sheridan is to perform well during training, and cement her spot on the list.
