Two women were taken to hospital after suffering injuries on a Queensland island hosting a running event.

RACQ CapRescue was tasked to Curtis Island on Saturday after a woman in her eighties collapsed after becoming dizzy spectating the island’s Trail Run, but were conveniently present when another woman suffered a fall down stairs.

The Curtis Island Trail Run is a popular event and the rescue service noted there were “hundreds” of people on the island that day.

“As Rescue 300 landed to attend the woman in her eighties, another member of the public approached and asked if the crew could assist with his wife, who had just fallen down a flight of stairs,” a spokesman said.

“As the medical crew were occupied with attending the primary patient, one of the aircrew officers attended the second patient.

“On inspection of the lady’s ankle, it was established it was more than likely broken and needed to be seen at a hospital for X-rays.

“While Rescue 300 rushed the first patient back to Rockhampton Hospital, her son offered to take the lady with the injured ankle back to Gladstone in his boat, where she was met by Queensland Ambulance Service.”

Both women were transported to Rockhampton hospital in a stable condition.
