Queensland Fire and Queensland Police on scene over chemical smell in Penda Ave at New Auckland

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Police crews were on scene in New Auckland on Friday afternoon after a member of the public reported a ‘strong chemical smell’ in the area about 2.45pm.

A QFES spokesman confirmed two fire crews were in the vicinity of Penda Ave, Shaw Street and Willow Street investigating the smell carrying out atmospheric testing.

It is understood QFES has completed external testing around several properties along Penda Ave.

Shortly after arriving on scene, QFES called in for police assistance with up to two police crews also at the scene.

The Observer understands police intend to carry out investigations in Satinay Street, which backs onto Penda Ave.

The street was not blocked off by emergency services and local traffic was not significantly impacted.

Investigations continue but it is understood authorities are no longer concerned about the incident.

A QFES officer who attended the scene confirmed no residents were harmed and no one required hospital transportation.
