A beachfront hideaway, previously owned by a “prominent surfing family” for 13 years, has sold for $6 million.
The three-bedroom property with its ocean-facing timber deck and private access to the beach at 35 Clowes Lane, Agnes Water is now in the hands of a new Queensland buyer.
Gordon Christian, who sold the property through PRD Agnes Water, said the recent pricey purchase was a reflection of the current market.
“What we’re seeing is a lot of money coming from Toowoomba, Noosa and Brisbane,” Mr Christian said
“(This property in particular) sold pretty quickly.
“I was trying to sell it in as off market, and it was sold in less than a week.”
The biggest drawcard for the property is the rare and distinct location, only metres from Agnes Water main beach, Queensland’s northernmost surf point.
“This was a really rare sight, which is why there was so much interest in it,” Mr Christian said
He explained the market had increased significantly since late last year and expected the “tide to rise” further as interest increased from SEQ and interstate buyers.
“Agnes Water has seen significant price rises over the last two years,” he said
“The price of houses will surprise many in the regional areas.
“The increase is coming mainly due to the movement of money from the Sunshine Coast, particularly Noosa, (as well as) Toowoomba and Brisbane. But there is a new wave of money coming in from the Southern states.
“There have been several notable sales over $2 million.”
While the price is among the highest on record for the region, it’s not the only strong result.
Mr Christian said three major sales had been in the Sunrise at 1770 Estate, two in the Beach Houses Estate and one in the Rocky Point Estate.
“But two sales that have stood out have been 8.9ha on Springs Beach for $8 million in February of 2021 and the recent sale of Clowes Lane for $6 million,” he said
The Springs Beach sale retains the record and was to another big name in surfing – Rip Curl co-founder Doug “Claw” Warbrick.
