Rebecca Marie Geard caught drink-driving while on suspended sentence

A Gladstone woman was busted driving while almost three times the legal blood-alcohol limit when she chose to drop a friend off.

A woman avoided jail time on December 3 when she appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court for drink-driving.

Rebecca Marie Geard, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Bevan Manthey.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Carl Spargo told the court that on October 12, about 12.50am, Gladstone police intercepted Geard driving a Mitsubishi Pajero on French Street, South Gladstone.

Geard’s breath test returned a positive result and she was detained and taken to Gladstone police station for further testing.

When questioned, Geard said she had consumed about seven or eight cans of rum and coke between her first drink at 2pm and last at 12.40am.

Geard’s breath test at the police station returned a positive blood-alcohol reading of 0.136 per cent.

She was issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Mr Spargo told the court Geard was on a suspended sentence for prior offending, however, the prosecution was taking no action on it.

Mr Manthey fined Geard $900, disqualified her from driving for three months and extended her suspended sentence by three months. A conviction was recorded.
