Matthew Pershouse pleaded guilty to four charges.

A man drunkenly threatened a police informant with a knife outside a busy bar in Gladstone’s CBD, a court has heard.

Matthew James Pershouse, 37, pleaded guilty to obstructing police, committing a public nuisance in the vicinity of a licensed premises, contravening a direction or requirement and knife possession in public.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Carl Spargo outlined the facts of Pershouse’s offending, the worst of which occurred on June 29, about 2.50am.

Gladstone police were called to a disturbance at the Lightbox Espresso and Wine Bar, Gladstone Central regarding a drunk man threatening the informant with a knife.

Police attended and observed the heavily intoxicated Pershouse standing at the front of the bar.

Police also spoke with the informant who told police Pershouse came over to them while they were preparing their vegetable stall and started abusing them and harassing them about their stall.

Police spoke to Pershouse who told police he walked over to them and asked what they were doing.

He told police all he did was walk over to them and say: “What the f*** are you doing?”

When police asked Pershouse why he would be annoying them when it was none of his business, his reply was: “I’m a business owner and they’re a business so it is my business.”

Police then told Pershouse to leave the area numerous times, before he became belligerent and obnoxious towards police and refused to leave.

Police gave Pershouse a warning that he would be arrested for public nuisance if he did not leave.

Pershouse responded by throwing his phone and wallet onto the ground before raising both his arms and saying: “Arrest me then.”

Pershouse was arrested and transported to the Gladstone watch house where he was issued an infringement notice.

In court, Pershouse was fined a total of $2119 and convictions were recorded for all offences.
