A Gladstone mother’s efforts to prevent her son from being arrested landed her in hot water.
Maylene Malone, 48, pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to obstructing police.
On July 13, around 7.30pm, police attended Malone’s house to arrest her son and had reasonable suspicion he was hiding in the house.
Malone became immediately irate when police arrived and demanded to see a search warrant and contacted her legal adviser.
An officer explained to Malone several times why police were present and how they did not require a warrant to search her home.
Malone was warned on several occasions that by not allowing police entry into her home she would be committing an offence and be arrested.
She still refused police entry and was arrested as a result, police found her son hiding in a rear bedroom and he was also arrested.
Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and entered Malone into a six month, $400 recognisance. No conviction was recorded.
