A Central Queensland man with a lengthy criminal history ended up “back in the drug scene” and committing brazen thefts, a court has heard.

Martin John Rissmann, 45, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to charges including enter premises and commit indictable offence, fraud, stealing and possessing tainted property.

The court heard that among Rissmann’s offences, he entered a Woolworths store at Kin Kora, filled a trolley with about $500 worth of groceries and left without paying.

He also went to Gladstone’s Grand Hotel during operating hours at night, where he walked into a staff area and took a female worker’s bag containing car and house keys, a debit card and her driver’s licence.

“He spent $13 with her card,” police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said.

“It’s completely gratuitous offending.”

The court heard that all of Rissmann’s offences happened while he was on parole and he had an 11-page criminal history which included similar offending.

Solicitor Jun Pepito said Rissmann ended up “back in the drug scene” and committed these offences, and he intended to go to rehabilitation.

On May 15, Magistrate Mary Buchanan declared 46 days’ pre-sentence custody as time already served and sentenced Rissmann to eight months’ jail, wholly suspended for an operational period of 15 months.

Convictions were recorded.
