A Gladstone mum who knew she shouldn’t have been driving has paid a high price for speeding away from police at night.

Marion Lee Kay, 24, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 13 to evasion at night and disqualified driving.

The court heard that Kay was on a suspended sentence when she committed these latest offences.

About 9.04pm on November 15 last year, police saw Kay driving on Barney Street, Barney Point, and they activated their lights and sirens.

Kay accelerated away from them and the intercept was abandoned.

At the time, Kay’s driver’s licence was court disqualified.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said Kay was a single mother of two who was pregnant with her third child, and she committed the evade offence because she knew she didn’t have a licence and “she was scared.”

Acting Magistrate Stephen Guttridge fined Kay, who had a five-page criminal history, $8490 and disqualified her from driving for two years.

Mr Guttridge extended the operational period of the suspended sentence by six months.
