A man threatened to arrange for his pregnant partner to be brutally assaulted, a court heard.

The man, 26, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to contravention of a domestic violence order.

Police prosecutor Merrilyn Hoskins said police were called to a unit on Toolooa Street, Gladstone in relation to a disturbance on August 1, 2020.

She said when they arrived, police saw the front wooden door was extensively damaged and located the victim, 20 weeks pregnant at the time, who said the defendant had fled.

Ms Hoskins said the victim told police they had been arguing about the neighbours, who had kept the victim up all night and she tried to get the defendant to go their unit.

She said about 8.30am, the victim stated the defendant threatened to get one of the neighbour’s mothers to, “come and smash her head in”.

Ms Hoskins said the victim claimed the defendant said this because he knew she was scared of her as the woman had threatened to do so in the past.

She said the victim thought the defendant left and she believed she was locked inside and just lost it.

Ms Hoskins said victim damaged the door in an attempt to escape the house.

Acting Magistrate Ross Woodford sentenced the man to a one-month prison term, wholly suspended and operational for one year.
