Kurt Dionysius sentenced for Mieplace Niteclub incident

A mine worker was evicted from a Central Queensland nightclub for “causing issues with female patrons” and then he turned his attention to police which included a very odd threat.

A man has faced court after his eviction from a Central Queensland nightclub led to a bizarre run-in with police.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said about 3am on December 29, police attended Gladstone’s Mieplace Niteclub when they were approached by security who informed that Dionysius had been removed from the venue for causing issues with female patrons.

“Police spoke with (Dionysius) who was immediately argumentative and belligerent towards police,” Ms Leach said.

“And (Dionysius) made threats towards police, stating he would assault them.”

Ms Leach said Dionysius continued threatening police, saying he was “going to find them off-duty and steal their gardening tools.”

The prosecutor said Dionysius refused to remain still and he tried to walk off a number of times despite being warned not to.

He was subsequently arrested.

Dionysius had a six-page criminal history which included violent offending but he had not appeared in court since 2019.

Solicitor Rio Ramos said Dionysius worked as a trades assistant in the mines and on the night of the offence, he was intoxicated and he could not remember what he had done.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan ordered Dionysius perform 40 hours of unpaid community service and a conviction was recorded.
