Chantelle Davies sentenced for Mieplace Niteclub assault

The backstory of three women involved in a Central Queensland nightclub incident that led to one of them being assaulted has been revealed along with the penalty for her attacker.

A woman who assaulted another woman at a Central Queensland nightclub in a revenge attack, has faced court.

Chantelle Maree Davies, 35, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard that on November 23, Davies was with her wife at Gladstone’s Mieplace Niteclub when she assaulted another woman.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Jessica McLaren said the victim was with friends in the upstairs area of the nightclub when Davies “came out of nowhere” and punched her with a closed fist to the face.

The assault victim suffered a laceration above her left eye and facial swelling.

Davies had no criminal history.

Solicitor Cassandra Ditchfield said years prior to the nightclub assault, the victim was involved in an incident with Davies’ wife.

Ms Ditchfield said on the night of the assault, the victim had been taunting Davies “throughout the night”.

“None of this is to seek to excuse the behaviour (of Davies) but it does go a long way to explaining it,” Ms Ditchfield said.

At that point of Ms Ditchfield’s submission, Magistrate Mary Buchanan interjected, saying “it explains it but you still can’t go and punch someone in the face for something that happened six years ago.”

Ms Ditchfield replied: “No, absolutely, and that’s acknowledged by (Davies).”

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Davies $750 and no conviction was recorded.
