Jordan Marston sentenced at Gladstone for fraud, drug offences

A Central Queensland pub worker has overcome a meth addiction which led to him committing crimes including fraud, a court has heard.

A Central Queensland pub worker has been given a suspended jail sentence for his drug and fraud crimes.

Jordan Richard Marston, 24, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 10 to numerous charges including possessing dangerous drugs and drug items, obstructing police, and fraud.

The court heard that police busted Marston with three clip-seal bags - one containing a small amount of meth - and he obstructed officers by putting all three in his mouth.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said Marston was told to spit them out, which he did, but soon afterwards he put them back in his mouth.

The court heard the fraud charged related to Marston obtaining $150 from a Cash Converters store for some golf clubs, and the prosecution sought restitution.

It was told that Marston had a five-page criminal history and he committed some of these offences while on probation.

A solicitor said Marston, who had been diagnosed with autism and schizophrenia, had suffered from a meth addiction and engaged with Drug ARM (rehab).

The solicitor said Marston had been “clean” from drugs since relocating to Theodore five months ago, where he now worked at a pub.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Marston to two months’ jail, wholly suspended for an operational period of 12 months.

She also fined Marston $2750 and ordered he pay $150 restitution.

Convictions were recorded.
