An out-of-work miner has faced a Central Queensland court after he committed two fuel drive-offs and then got busted with drugs.

An out-of-work miner has faced court after he committed two fuel drive-offs at Central Queensland service stations and then got busted with drugs.

Troy Dominic Thorogood, 30, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 10 to charges including two counts each of stealing and possessing dangerous drugs, and one count of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle.

The court heard the stealing offences involved Thorogood committing fuel drive-offs at Puma Gin Gin of $114 and BP Peak Downs worth $45.

It was told the drug offending related to Thorogood being caught with .35g of methamphetamine, .33g of cannabis and 58 cannabis seeds.

The unlawful possession charge involved Thorogood keeping a rental car for longer than he was permitted.

The court heard that Thorogood had a three-page criminal history and the prosecution sought restitution for the stolen fuel.

A self-represented Thorogood told Magistrate Mary Buchanan that he was currently unemployed but looking for a job, having previously worked in the mines.

Thorogood, of Calliope, said drugs had been an issue for him over the past 12 years and he was a regular user.

Documentation was tendered to the court showing Thorogood had attended sessions with Lives Lived Well for his drug problem.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan placed Thorogood on 18 months’ probation and ordered he pay $159 restitution.

Convictions were recorded.
