A Central Queensland drug user’s bid to flush meth down the toilet backfired and he ended up in court.

Jeffrey Kevin Zimmerlie, 54, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Wednesday to possessing dangerous drugs.

The court heard police executed a search warrant at Zimmerlie’s Gladstone residence on June 27.

“And he’s gone into the bathroom and tried to flush something down the toilet which police have fished out of the toilet,” police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said.

“It was about half a gram of meth.”

The court heard Zimmerlie had a four-page criminal history which included previous drug offending (possession) and he had also been dealt with in court for numerous drug driving offences in the past five years.

Sgt Hoskins said that history indicated drugs were a part of Zimmerlie’s life.

Solicitor Jun Pepito said Zimmerlie, a father of six, suffered from cystic fibrosis and the loss of a son late last year had impacted him.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Zimmerlie $600 and a conviction was recorded.
