A court heard that on November 24, around 10.40am, police were conducting patrols on Glenlyon Street when they intercepted Sladden driving a red Holden Commodore.

Following a conversation with Sladden and his passenger, they were both detained while police searched for dangerous drugs.

Upon searching Sladden’s army pack in the back seat the located a tobacco pouch which contained a used syringe.

When questioned, Sladden said he used the pack around a week prior and the tobacco pouch was used to pick up dumpers.

Sladden also told police he injected up around that time but did not realise the syringe was in the pouch.

He was subsequently issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Manthey convicted and fined Sladden $100, however, no conviction was recorded.

Dale George Johnson, 38

An aspiring professional boxer found himself in hot water after stealing a bike from outside a busy welfare agency.

On September 30, around 11am, Johnson left Centrelink on Goondoon Street, Gladstone Central, and removed the victim’s bike from the rack located outside the premises.

Through inquiries, police located and spoke with Johnson who said he recalled taking the bike from Centrelink.

Johnson said his father’s bike was recently stolen and was identical to the victim’s bike.

He further said when he saw the bike, he phoned his parents who told him it was probably their bike.

Later, after taking the bike, Johnson realised it wasn’t his father’s bike, however, made no effort to return it.

Johnson told police he could have the bike dropped to the police station and followed through on his pledge, with the bike returned a short time later.

Johnson’s lawyer Pierre Lammersdorf said his client was self-training in order to one day become a professional boxer

Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and sentenced Johnson to one month imprisonment, wholly suspended for 12 months. A conviction was recorded.

“All of the best with your training and endeavours, I hope I don’t see you in here again,” Mr Manthey said.

Shilo John Barnes, 20

A driver ditched his plates a matter of minutes after being involved in a serious traffic accident, a court heard.

Shilo John Barnes pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, failure to give way at intersection, stop sign or traffic light and failure to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.

A court heard that on December 2, around 1.40pm, Barnes was driving his Nissan Pajero along Barney Street, Barney Point.

Barnes’ intention was to make a right turn onto Young Street and without slowing down from the speed limit of 50 km/h, commenced a right turn.

A car driving along Barney Street heading the opposite direction had right of way and slammed head first into Barnes’ car.

Barnes’ car ran over the median strip, damaging a ‘Keep Left’ street sign as a result of the incident.

The other car sustained major damage and required a tow from the scene.

After the accident, Barnes stopped around 50 metres down the road on Young Street before accelerating until he reached Hopper Road, Barney Point.

He turned off onto a dirt trail leading to railroad tracks where he followed a small dirt road before removing his plates and throwing them into shrubbery.

A short time later, Barnes was located and spoken to by police. He admitted to smoking marijuana in the morning prior to the incident.

Barnes was convicted and placed on 12 months probation, was suspended from driving for 12 months and fined $800. Convictions were recorded.

Shaun Andrew Milford, 38

A man made admissions to police of drinking four beers in an afternoon session before making the dangerous decision to drive.

Shaun Andrew Milford, 38, pleaded guilty to drink driving.

A court heard that on December 7, around 6.25pm, Gladstone police intercepted Milford on Penda Ave, New Auckland.

Police saw Milford was exhibiting drunken behaviour and he admitted to drinking four beers since 4pm that afternoon and he thought he might have been over the limit.

A breath test at the Gladstone police station at 6.59pm returned a positive indication of .109.

Milford was issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Manthey convicted and fined Milford $500 and suspended him from driving for three months. A conviction was recorded.
