A man has faced court at Gladstone for punching another man in the street after a verbal altercation turned violent.

Hayden Jon Vock, 28, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on June 13 to common assault.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said that about 12.40pm on May 31, police went to a New Auckland house in relation to a disturbance.

Ms Leach said when officers arrived, they saw Vock about to leave in his vehicle.

The prosecutor said the assault victim was sitting in his vehicle, holding a tissue to his lip and his shirt had been ripped.

After questioning both men, police established there had been an initial verbal altercation inside the residence where Vock told the victim to “get out of the house” and he also made threats.

The court heard the victim then went out to the front of the house when the male occupant returned home.

Ms Leach said Vock pushed the occupant into the victim and “jammed” the victim up against the steering wheel of his car.

Vock then ripped the victim’s shirt and punched him in the lip which was lacerated by the blow.

The court heard Vock had a two-page criminal history with no prior similar offending on it.

Solicitor Rio Ramos said Vock was currently unemployed.

Ms Ramos said there had been “angst” between the victim and Vock’s sister which had “set him off”.

“At the time (of the assault) he finally snapped at the victim,” Ms Ramos said.

Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Vock $700 and a conviction was recorded.
