Gladstone State High School in lockdown after bomb threat hoax

The lockdown of a Central Queensland school evacuated after a midday bomb threat received over the phone is over after it was discovered to be a hoax.

Gladstone State High School held a “brief precautionary lockdown” on Thursday morning after receiving a threat.

It was understood to have been the second of the day.

The school confirmed on Facebook the evacuation had ended by 1.47pm.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed police were called to an incident at the school, with officers attending as a precaution.

Speaking to this publication about 1.53pm, the police spokeswoman said officers were no longer on scene.

Police were called to Gladstone State High School at 12.20pm after a the school received a threat over the phone. It is understood to have been a bomb hoax.

A Facebook post from principal Garry Goltz at 12.27pm confirmed the school was “enacting” a lockdown.

“We are enacting a another lockdown today in response to a separate threat received. Emergency services are attending our school,” the post said.

“GSHS will communicate with parents and carers as soon as we have clearance to return to class.

“Again, rest assured, the safety and welfare of your children and our staff is our highest priority.

“Thank you for your continuing support of Gladstone State High School.”
