Gladstone man found with meth, weapons after allegedly stealing vehicle

A Gladstone man who was initially released on bail for property and weapon offences was later arrested for allegedly assaulting staff at a business before taking food from a private function.

After failing to steal a forklift from a jobsite, a Gladstone man allegedly stole a vehicle from another business the following morning before he was intercepted by police.

The 51-year-old New Auckland man will remain in custody following a string of alleged offences over the weekend.

Police allege about 8.30pm on Friday December 2, the man climbed over a gate at a Gladstone Central business and entered a forklift which he then drove into the front gate causing damage.

Police claim he then walked around the business before returning the forklift to its original spot.

The following morning about 8am, the man allegedly climber over the fence of a Callemondah business before grabbing a set of keys and driving a vehicle around Gladstone for about two hours before he was intercepted by police.

Police made further inquiries before identifying the vehicle as stolen.

Following his arrest, police located a flick-knife, knuckle dusters and a glass pipe with scorch marks during a body search.

Police allegedly located a machete and a “tomahawk style” axe in the man’s backpack.

The man was charged with one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, two counts of unlawful possession of weapons, one count of possess knife in public place and one count of possess drug utensil that had been used.

He was originally granted bail and due to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 10.

The following morning, police claim the man was checking-out of a Goondoon St, Gladstone Central business when he committed common assault against an employee by throwing a cup towards her, narrowly missing the employee and hitting a wall.

Police claim the man then walked into a room which was closed for a private function and used coffee facilities before taking a meal pack and leaving.

Upon his arrest, police allegedly located a clip seal bag on methylamphetamine on his person.

The man was further charged with one count of common assault, one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

He was refused bail and due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court this week.
