A former Valleys junior rugby league prodigy was busted with a labelled bag of MDMA on his way to a holiday at Airlie Beach.
Jaiden Lewis Eddy, 22, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday to possessing dangerous drugs.
Eddy was intercepted in a Mitsubishi, travelling with two mates, on the Bruce Highway, Kunwarra, en route to a party.
Police formed a suspicion the trio was in possession of dangerous drugs given their nervous states and a search of the car was conducted.
During that search police found a clip-seal bag with “Eddy” written on it which contained 1.4 grams of MDMA, and another with “Bill” written on it containing 1.25 grams of the same drug.
Eddy told police he had bought the drug for him and a friend and it cost him $200, but chose not to name his dealer.
Magistrate Bevan Manthey asked Eddy, a fourth-year apprentice, if his employer was aware of the charge he was facing and then gave him the answer.
“He will, the paper is sitting in the back of the courtroom, so that is the risk you run,” Mr Manthey said.
“The penalties just get more serious from here on in, - you are definitely on the police radar now.”
Eddy was fined $800.
No conviction was recorded.
