In what was a busy week in Gladstone Magistrates Court last week, numerous offenders pleaded guilty to various charges from public nuisance to unlicensed driving.

A police welfare check uncovered a woman’s drug stash which included marijuana and utensils.

The court heard police attended Sharplin’s Spano Street address in Zilmere to conduct a welfare check.

Sharplin answered the door and police immediately smelt disinfectant as if it had just been sprayed.

Police entered Sharplin’s unit after a brief conversation with her and could smell burnt cannabis.

They observed a bowl which contained marijuana in the middle of the bed in the master bedroom.

Sharplin admitted to smoking marijuana that morning and having some left over.

During a further search police located a glass bong that had been used, an electric grinder and a toiletry bag in a side drawer which contained 4.3 grams of marijuana.

Police seized all drug property and issued Sharplin a notice to appear in court.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey fined Sharplin $400. No convictions were recorded.

An unlicensed driver was intercepted by Gladstone police on his way for a fast food feast, a court heard.

Dominic Craig Ryan, 33, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to unlicensed driving.

A court heard that on September 8, Ryan was intercepted by police on Blain Drive.

Ryan immediately confessed to police he was unlicensed and had just left his house to get Red Rooster.

He further stated he was due to get his licence back soon.

Police checks on Ryan’s license revealed it was demerit point suspended for a three-month period between June 16 and September 15, 2021.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey fined Ryan $300 and disqualified him from driving for six months. A conviction was recorded.

Gabriel John Neivandt, 40.

A man launched a verbal tirade of abuse and threats towards a Gladstone bank’s employees recently, accusing them of withholding his money.

The court heard that on September 15 police were called to ANZ Bank in Gladstone Central after a duress alarm was activated.

When police arrived they located Neivandt and spoke with him, then headed into the bank for statements.

The informant told police that about 9.15am she exited the bank branch when she was approached by Neivandt who immediately launched into a verbal tirade.

He accused her and the ANZ Gladstone branch of withholding his money and blocking access to his bank account.

The informant also stated Neivandt saw a male ANZ employee and threatened to bash him.

The defendant was subsequently issued with an identifying particulars notice and a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Neivandt did not attend Gladstone police station within seven days to provide police with identifying particulars and was charged for that offence.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey fined Neivandt $550 and recorded a conviction.

A Gladstone man told police he was not aware of his demerit point driving suspension being active.

Cameron Steven Masters, 27, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to unlicensed driving.

The court heard on September 15, around 6pm, Calliope police were conducting patrols on the Bruce Highway, River Ranch, when Masters sped past them in a brown Toyota ute.

Police did a U-turn and intercepted Masters, with checks on his licence revealing it was demerit point suspended as of August 4 for six months.

When questioned, Masters indicated he had received an email from SPER indicating he was not suspended.

Masters said he was not aware his licence was demerit point suspended, but said he was aware it was coming up.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey fined Masters $300 and disqualified him from driving for six months. A conviction was recorded.
