A woman who stole more than $4000 from a Central Queensland motel while working there, has been sentenced.
Evyie Spence Kimberley Spence, 21, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to nine counts of stealing by clerks and servants, and one count of attempted stealing by clerks and servants.
The court heard Spence committed her offending in February and March 2024 while working at Koorawatha Homestead Motel, Bororen.
Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said Spence started working at the motel in January 2024.
Ms Leach said during the offences, Spence used the motel’s EFTPOS merchant terminal to conduct unauthorised refunds.
She refunded nine amounts totalling $4273 to her personal card.
One of Spence’s efforts to refund $1100 was declined and that was the attempted stealing offence.
Spence had no criminal history and the prosecution sought $4273 restitution.
Solicitor Jun Pepito said Spence lost her job at the motel as a result of this offending.
He said at the time of committing the offences, Spence was suffering from stresses.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan ordered Spence perform 100 hours of unpaid community service and pay $4273 restitution.
No conviction was recorded.
