Drink drivers, drug drivers who faced Gladstone Magistrates Court

A drug driver busted twice in the space of a fortnight and a learner drink driver were among the latest traffic offenders to face Gladstone court to get their punishments.

The following people pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to either drink driving or drug driving offences.

Tani Edwina Jo Emery, 36

Learner driver Emery blew a reading of .095 after she was intercepted by police on Dawson Road, Gladstone Central, on January 15.

She pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 15 to drink driving.

With no similar offending in the past five years, Emery was fined $500 by Magistrate Mary Buchanan and disqualified from driving for three months.

Wade Kenneth Johnston, 44

Johnston had both amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system when he was a driver involved in a two-vehicle crash at Rockhampton’s Denison Street on May 27, 2024.

He pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 15 to drug driving.

The court heard this was Johnston’s third similar offence in the past five years and he was fined $750 by Magistrate Mary Buchanan and disqualified from driving for six months.

A traffic conviction was recorded.

Darryl Wayne Potts, 61

Potts had cannabis in his system when he was caught driving on Bell Street, Barney Point, on February 26.

He pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 15 to drug driving.

With no similar offending in the past five years, Potts was fined $350 by Magistrate Mary Buchanan and disqualified from driving for one month.

Joshua David Hamilton, 34

Hamilton had cannabis in his system when police caught him driving on Kent Street, West Gladstone, on February 19.

He pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 15 to drug driving.

With no similar offending in the past five years, Hamilton was fined $350 by Magistrate Mary Buchanan and disqualified from driving for three months.

Kaeln Anthony Hossack, 26

Hossack was caught driving with cannabis in his system twice in the space of a fortnight.

He pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 15 to two counts of drug driving and one count of obstructing police.

The court heard the first time Hossack was caught drug driving was on February 20 at Barney Street, Barney Point.

The second time he was busted on Auckland Street, Gladstone Central, on March 4.

In relation to the obstruct police offence, the court heard during Hossack’s March 4 intercept, he dropped his pants, punched a police car window, kicked a seat in the police vehicle, and called a police officer “a f***head”.

The court heard Hossack was well qualified and due to start a new scaffolding job in Gladstone next week.

With no prior similar offending, Hossack was fined $1000 by Magistrate Mary Buchanan and disqualified from driving for two months.

No traffic nor criminal convictions were recorded.
