A Central Queensland cleaner with a penchant for stealing perfume has faced court for her latest offending.

Cassie Donna Heath, 42, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court this week to stealing.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Jessica McLaren said about 12.30pm on April 17, Heath went into Priceline Pharmacy Kin Kora.

Snr Const McLaren said Heath removed a $90 bottle of perfume from its packet, concealed it and left the store without paying.

Police later searched Heath’s caravan at Tannum Sands and they found the bottle of perfume as well as the clothing Heath was wearing when she committed the theft, which was captured on CCTV footage.

The court heard during a police interview, Heath made full admissions to stealing.

It was told that Heath had a one-page criminal history which included three previous stealing offences.

The prosecution did not seek restitution.

Solicitor Caitlin Dee said Heath was a mother of two who worked part-time as a cleaner.

Ms Dee said Heath suffered from PTSD and depression for which she was medicated.

“When she’s not on her medication - she wasn’t at the time of this offence and also wasn’t in the 2022 offence, she has a propensity to steal perfume.

“So in 2022, on her record, for stealing - all perfume.”

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Heath $400 and no conviction was recorded.
