A Central Queensland woman allegedly breached her bail by committing break-ins at the Bororen Hotel and a nearby motel.
Carina Kathleen Smith, 34, made a bail application in Gladstone Magistrates Court recently for a breach of bail offence, after being charged with two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence.
Ms Smith appeared via video link from Gladstone watch house and was represented by Rio Ramos of Ramos and Co Lawyers Gladstone.
Ms Ramos said Ms Smith was the mother of two children aged four and nine, who were being looked after by their grandparents.
The court heard Ms Smith last appeared in court in 2020 and the last time she appeared for breaching bail was in 2012.
Ms Ramos told the court Ms Smith recently relapsed back into using meth and marijuana but was seeing a professional for her mental health and was on a waiting list for a drug and alcohol support program.
The court heard Ms Smith hadn’t served time in custody for offending since 2010 and that drug use was the catalyst for her alleged offending.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins asked Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan that if Ms Smith were to be granted bail, that she be banned from entering the Bororen Hotel or the motel rooms beside it where she allegedly committed the entering premises offences.
Ms Buchanan noted that like Ms Ramos said, Ms Smith had obviously been off drugs for sometime, and that her criminal record reflected that.
Ms Smith was granted bail with conditions that she not live anywhere other than at her or her parent’s address, not attend the Bororen Hotel or nearby motel, abide by a 7pm to 6am curfew, report to police and to abstain from illegal drugs.
Her matters were adjourned for mention on May 3.
