A woman threatened to blow up Gladstone Police Station after her accomplice was arrested in a Barney Point carpark, a court heard.

Brihannah Leigh Viggiani, 26, later explained to police she was not ‘actually’ going to bomb the station and she behaved the way she did out of frustration.

Viggiani pleaded guilty to one count of public nuisance in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said that on June 16, around 9.55am, Gladstone police were conducting patrols of a sports club car park in Barney Point.

They saw a man and a woman walking through the carpark, however, as soon as the man saw police he sprinted off.

A foot chase ensued before the man was arrested and taken back to the police car.

When police started searching the man, Viggiani started to hurl abuse at the officers.

She said words to the effect of, “you’re abusing your power” and calling the police “c----”.

Police warned Viggiani to stop as she was committing a public nuisance offence and she was in public.

She replied “I don’t give a f--- if I’m in a public place”.

A short time later, Viggiani made a threat to attend Gladstone Police Station and “bomb the cop shop”.

Police then requested another crew who attended and questioned Viggiani about her threats.

She told police she was not ‘actually’ going to bomb the station and she behaved the way she did because she was frustrated police took everything and everyone from her.

She was issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Viggiani’s lawyer Rio Ramos said her client was five months pregnant and had not taken any drugs or drank alcohol since the offence.

“This is, in my submission Your Honour, not the most serious of public nuisance offending, she made threats which she did not execute,” she said.

In sentencing, Magistrate Bevan Manthey said that in his court, being pregnant was not a deterrent for him to impose a jail sentence.

“It’s not a relevant factor in this court, it’s not going to save her from imprisonment if I was going to impose actual time today,” he said.

“It is a factor that will be taken into account, but it does not outweigh other significant factors like her lengthy criminal history.”

Viggiani was convicted and sentenced to three months imprisonment, wholly suspended for 18 months.

A conviction was recorded.
