Amelia Denise Geesu pleaded guilty to eight charges in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday

A mother endangered the lives of road users in a heavily populated Gladstone suburb after taking 20 valium tablets and leading police on a pursuit.

Amelia Denise Geesu, 37, pleaded guilty to eight charges including evading and obstructing police and contravening a direction or requirement in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday, the worst of which occurred on April 12, around 7.55pm.

Police attended Geesu’s address after receiving reports she had consumed 20 valium then gone for a drive.

Having found no one at home, police began to patrol the surrounding area in search of Geesu’s car.

As police drove along Beak Street, New Auckland they saw Geesu driving a white Toyota van in the opposite direction.

Police tried to intercept Geesu’s car with lights and sirens activated, even using their horn to further alert her to pull over.

Geesu continued to drive and made no attempt to stop, then turned left from Cockatoo Drive towards Emmadale Drive.

Police continued their pursuit before stopping near Orlando Place.

The Gladstone Police Communications Centre contacted Geesu a short time later, who agreed to meet with police at her house.

Geesu was located a short time later on the corner of Luscombe and Norma Streets in New Auckland and police took her to Gladstone Base Hospital.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said Geesu had a number of issued which culminated in her behaviour which became extreme.

“That includes the evasion offence, where police were forced to pursue her after she made a statement to a helpline that she had taken 20 valium,” she said.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey said although no one was directly harmed by Geesu’s actions, she still acted in a manner which endangered people’s lives.

Geesu was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with an immediate parole release date having served 64 days in pre-sentence custody. She was also suspended from driving for two years.
