Amber Jade Henderson defrauded her father of $6,000 after stealing his phone over a domestic issue

Could you imagine stealing $6000 from your own father? A Gladstone woman did just that - and was charged with fraud.

Amber Jade Henderson, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud and stealing in the Gladstone Magistrates Court.

A Gladstone woman used a banking app to taunt her father after stealing $6,000 from him.

Amber Jade Henderson, 28, pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court to two counts of fraud and stealing.

Between September 30 and December 1, Henderson was staying at the Leichhardt Hotel in Rockhampton due to a broken drainage pipe at her home.

A court heard her father attended the hotel and while there, Henderson saw his phone in the gaming room and took it before heading to her room.

The victim realised he had lost his phone so used a friend’s to call his number, which Henderson answered.

She told her father she had found the phone in the gaming room and taken it with her, telling him he could retrieve it when he attended her residence to fix the pipe.

Her father made multiple attempts to have the phone returned, however, it was not returned to him.

On November 15, Henderson used her father’s phone to access his personal banking app and transfer $2000 from his account to hers.

Again on November 17, Henderson used the phone to transfer a further $2000 from her father’s account to her own, this time leaving a message on the transaction “Hahahah mine – Amber”.

A further $2000 transfer was made before police caught up with Henderson and issued her a notice to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Police prosecutor Carl Spargo said Henderson’s offending was a serious breach of trust between father and daughter and submitted a suspended sentence was appropriate punishment.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and sentenced Henderson to 12 months probation and ordered $6,000 restitution be paid to her father.
