Amber Jane Hindmarsh was walking along Gladstone’s Goondoon St with a group of people when police in a nearby car saw her punch a glass window of a business multiple times while screaming.

Police gave a short blast of their sirens to get the 19-year-old’s attention and when asked what she was doing, Hindmarsh screamed at an officer “You f***ing want to go c**t do you? C’mon then c***, let’s go.”

She then marched towards the police car with clenched fists.

An officer wound up the driver’s side window and Hindmarsh punched it.

She then tried to open the door while screaming at police, with the officer having to hold the door closed.

Police eventually got out of the car to speak with Hindmarsh and she got highly aggressive.

An officer presented capsicum spray and Hindmarsh failed to comply with directions, instead advancing towards the officer while screaming “I’m not getting on the ground.”

The capsicum spray was then deployed.

Despite this, Hindmarsh kept advancing and the spray was deployed a second time which was effective.

While moving from the road to a grassed area, Hindmarsh kicked out at a police officer, connecting with his arm.

As she was being given after-care, Hindmarsh threatened to kill police officers and burn their houses down.

She was told not to threaten police and she replied, “You want to have a go, c***?”

While on the ground, Hindmarsh then kicked a female police officer in the head, connecting with her right temple and forehead causing her immediate pain.

The officer attended Gladstone Hospital.

Hindmarsh was put into a police car and while being taken to the watchhouse, she kicked the walls of the vehicle, smashed her handcuffs into them, and spat throughout the pod.

She then obstructed police further after being removed from the vehicle.

She was then put into a holding cell and given more after-care, but she continued to yell and scream at police and made further threats to burn down their houses with their families inside.

Hindmarsh then started singing the threats, smashed a cell wall and spat on it.

Police called Queensland Ambulance Service, and she was taken to Gladstone Hospital.

Hindmarsh accepted that version of events in Gladstone Magistrates Court where she pleaded guilty to serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm while adversely affected, serious assault of a police officer while adversely affected, public nuisance, and wilful damage of police property.

The court heard Hindmarsh had no criminal history and Magistrate Mary Buchanan said this was “incredibly serious offending.”

Solicitor Jun Pepito said since this incident, Hindmarsh had tried to remove herself from the group of people she was with on the night, and she had also avoided going out, instead drinking at home.

Mr Pepito said Hindmarsh was looking for work.

Magistrate Buchanan ordered Hindmarsh perform 100 hours of unpaid community service and placed her on 18 months’ probation.

Hindmarsh was also ordered to pay $750 compensation to the injured police officer.

No conviction was recorded.
