A teenager has died and an investigation is under way after the boy was electrocuted in Gladstone on Thursday.
Queensland Ambulance Services paramedics were called to the tragedy at West Gladstone just after 12pm.
The teen, a 15 year old boy, was climbing and swinging near live power lines at the Aurizon train bridge across Auckland Creek in McAndrew Drive.
The power pole then reportedly exploded causing the teenager to fall 10 metres into water below.
Queensland Police were on scene investigating and were being escorted by Aurizon staff to inspect around the bridge.
Detectives were also speaking to another teenage boy.
Ambulances have left the area and a QAS spokesperson said QPS was the lead agency on the incident.
A QPS spokesperson confirmed police would be preparing a report for the coroner following the incident.
The spokesperson said early information indicated there were no suspicious circumstances.
A spokesperson for Aurizon, which is the operator of the infrastructure, said staff were assisting police with their investigations on scene and offered their condolences to the boy’s family.
“Aurizon employees are assisting emergency services at the site of a tragic incident today (Thursday) on the Central Queensland Coal Network at Gladstone,” the spokesperson said.
“We extend our condolences to the family of the young man who has lost his life. This is a tragic incident that will be felt deeply by the local community.
“We are providing support to the Aurizon employees who attended the site to assist emergency services.”
