‘One of a kind’: Tributes flow for man killed in motorbike crash

Friends and family from Gladstone and the Gold Coast have paid tribute to the 22-year-old after he lost his life in an accident on New Year’s Eve.

Tributes are flowing for a 22-year-old man who lost his life in a horror motorcycle crash on the Gold Coast on New Year’s Eve.

Hayden Duncan Lee tragically died after his motorbike and another vehicle collided at Woongoolba on the Gold Coast about 9.40pm on New Year’s Eve.

Many of his friends and family have posted touching tributes to the former Toolooa State High School student on social media.

The Pimpama man’s friends gathered at the Gold Coast to pay tribute to him on New Year’s Day, doing a burnout in his honour.

Hundreds of people who knew Hayden gathered at Gladstone Bunnings on January 2 to say farewell.

They released balloons into the sky followed by a special convoy that drove around town, led by Hayden’s car.

His mother Nicole Baker struggled for words to describe her late son during this tragic time, but said she loved him so much.

Sisters Danni and Skye Baker also paid tribute at the event.

“He might be gone but he’ll forever live in our hearts,” Skye said.

“[I] know he’s going to watch over us,” Danni said.

Aunty Tracey O’Donohue posted a tribute on Facebook, saying “words can’t describe how we are feeling right now, our hearts are shattered”.

“I’ve got so many memories playing in my mind, you really are one of a kind,” she said.

“I will forever cherish the times we spent together, the stories we shared, everything about you.”

She said that Hayden attended Kin Kora primary school and graduated from Toolooa State High School in 2016.

Jason Hoad posted on Facebook, “Fly high Hayden, your huge heart and loving smile will truly be missed by us all.

“It’s beyond heartbreaking that we had to lose a beautiful soul so heaven could gain an angel.”

High school friend Bradley Steedman said it was a ‘tragic loss’ and Hayden went out ‘with a smile on his face’.

“I’m glad to see so many people here to remember him,” Bradley said.

Hayden is survived by his mother Nicole and stepfather Ken, his father John and his partner Katrina, and his sisters Skye and Danni.
