THE main beach at Agnes Water was closed yesterday as a pack of sharks gorged themselves on a school of baitfish.

And as mackerel and tuna also moved in on the ball of bait some larger predators were seen a little further out.

A small crowd gathered on the shoreline, at the section of beach normally flagged by lifeguards, to take photos and see first-hand a group of sharks working together.

As the ball of bait came close to the shore so too did the sharks, probably reef sharks, at times only metres from spectators who were ankle to knee-deep in the surf.

The sharks drove into the bait sending them into the air and thrashing about in the shallow water, almost beaching themselves at times.
